According to media reports, internet giant company Google will open Gmail, Youtube and some of its other services and web applications to children whose under the age of 13.
"The Times" qouted a source close to the company saying:
"Google is planning to offer its services to under-13s, however, parents will be able to control what they can see and do"
The report also said that the parents would be able to restrict access to certain services through a special "dashboard". They (parents) could be able to control what information is gathered from their children who uses Google's services.
Technology website "The Information" first to report about the plans of Google.
A Google spokesperson said:
" We do not comment on rumors and speculation".Currently, Google and Facebook do not offer their services to children who age is under 13 yrs. old, but many has already access to such web services like social networking sites, by pretending to be adult or log-in anonymously.
The age requirement existed on websites like Google and Facebook because of the Children's Online Privacy Protect Act, a US federal law which puts limits on how information about kids under 13 yrs of age is collected.
